Murray Fredericks

In addition to the last post I saw these beautiful photos by Murray Fredericks in the National Geographic. He went to Lake Eyre (Australia) 16 times within 8 years. About the following photo he said: "I took this shot as dawn was breaking, focusing my camera on the black line, which is the lake's edge. I had never seen this shade of yellow before—nor have I seen it since."

Eric Cahan: Sky Series

There is a pleasure in the pathless woods,
There is a rapture on the lonely shore,
There is society, where none intrudes,
By the deep sea, and music in its roar:
I love not man the less, but Nature more,
From these our interviews, in which I steal
From all I may be, or have been before,
To mingle with the Universe, and feel
What I can ne'er express,
yet cannot all conceal.

Steve Jobs: Stay Hungry, Stay Foolish

"Sometimes life hits you in the head with a brick. Don't lose faith. I'm convinced that the only thing that kept me going was that I loved what I did. You've got to find what you love. And that is as true for your work as it is for your lovers. Your work is going to fill a large part of your life, and the only way to be truly satisfied is to do what you believe is great work. And the only way to do great work is to LOVE what you do.

If you haven't found it yet, keep looking. Don't settle. As with all matters of the heart, you'll know when you find it. And, like any great relationship, it just gets better and better as the years roll on. So keep looking until you find it. Don't settle!"

Daniel Zeller

"Zeller’s process is dynamic and direct. It is a fluid series of spontaneous choices governed by self-imposed rules and conditions. The main rule is to always respect what has already been put on the page. Other conditions might dictate how color is used or topography rendered. These rules are flexible and serve to mediate and mold what might otherwise result in chaos. Tension between spontaneity and predictability is central to the process. The goal is to discover new vocabulary and new rules that can be incorporated, thus allowing the cycle to expand and evolve. The new works reveal an expanded color palette and a deepened three-dimensional, sculptural aspect." (http://www.escapeintolife.com/artist-watch/daniel-zeller/)

I love lines, dots, drippy brushstrokes, polygons, blends, morphs and swirls

I love sticks with stripes on them. Looking at abstract art is for me like doing non-verbal philosophy, symbolic logic or non-number mathematics. It is like music, because it has a narrative without a story, without people: a drama without words." Mary Heilmann
